The 42nd founding anniversary of National Life Insurance Company, one of the country’s leading life insurers, was observed on Thursday (23 April) at its head office located in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka (NLI Tower). The programme included a balloon release, cake-cutting ceremony and a discussion session.
Senior officials and directors of the company were present at the event, including Chairman Toafazzal Hossain, former Chairman Mahmudul Haque Taher, Directors Razia Sultana and Nahrin Rahman, Brigadier General (Retd.) Md Masud Hossain, Chief Executive Officer Md Kazim Uddin, and Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Probir Chandra Das, FCA, along with other senior executives.
In his address, Chairman Toafazzal Hossain stated that National Life Insurance began its journey on 23 April 1985 as the first private life insurance company in the country. He noted that the company’s establishment paved the way for the development of several private life insurance firms in Bangladesh. He further emphasised that insurance plays a significant role in the national economy, as premium collections are channelled into banks and other financial institutions for investment purposes.
He added that over the decades, National Life Insurance has contributed significantly to encouraging savings habits among a large population, as well as supporting investment and employment generation, thereby playing an important role in the broader economy. Following the discussion, the Chairman, alongside directors and executives, cut the anniversary cake.

According to company data, by 2025 National Life Insurance had brought around 75 lakh (7.5 million) people under insurance coverage. During the same period, it reported a premium income of Tk 21,320 crore and paid claims amounting to Tk 12,220 crore. The life fund stood at Tk 7,018 crore, while total assets reached Tk 7,751 crore, and investments were approximately Tk 6,241 crore.
The company also stated that it currently provides direct employment to nearly 5,000 salaried officers and employees, while supporting around 200,000 people through direct and indirect engagement across its operations.
National Life Insurance highlighted that it has received multiple national and international recognitions for its performance, including awards for outstanding claims settlement. It also received national honours from the Government of Bangladesh in 2023 and 2024 for highest insurance claim payments, recognition as a top taxpayer, and contributions to the national economy.
