Stellantis Recalls 375,000 Jeep SUVs Over Fire Risk, Advises Owners to Park Outdoors

Stellantis has announced a global recall of 375,000 plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs due to a battery fault that has resulted in 19 reported fires. The company has urged affected owners to park their vehicles outside and avoid charging them until a remedy is provided.

The recall affects Jeep Wrangler 4xe models from 2020 through 2025, as well as 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs. Stellantis stated that the issue is related to battery failures, which have prompted the fire risks. Although a solution is said to be imminent, the company has advised owners to keep their vehicles away from buildings until the problem is fixed.

According to Stellantis, the issue is linked to batteries produced by Samsung SDI. The company has identified that a fire earlier this year was caused by the same defect that led to a previous recall in 2024, which involved 154,000 plug-in hybrid Jeep EVs following reports of two injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that some 320,000 of the recalled vehicles are located in the United States. Stellantis has also received reports of nine fires involving batteries from vehicles that were repaired after recalls in 2023 and 2024, as well as 10 more fires from batteries outside the scope of those recalls.

Samsung SDI has stated that the most likely cause of the fires is damage to the battery separator, which interacts with other elements inside the battery cells.

Stellantis had previously recalled over 298,000 vehicles in October due to a potential rollaway risk.

As of now, Samsung SDI has not provided a comment regarding the issue.
