Excel Insurance Unveils WhatsApp Bot to Transform Digital Insurance Access in Uganda
Excel Insurance Company Limited, in strategic partnership with fintech firm Service Cops, has launched the Excel WhatsApp Bot, an innovative digital insurance solution designed to make insurance faster, simpler and more accessible for customers across Uganda. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing digital transformation within the financial and insurance sectors, bringing essential protection services directly to customers’ mobile devices.
The Excel WhatsApp Bot enables customers to purchase insurance policies directly through WhatsApp, one of the most widely used communication platforms in Uganda. Through the automated service, users can select an insurance product, complete payment instantly using mobile money, and receive their policy documents in real time. By eliminating paperwork, physical visits and lengthy processing times, the solution removes many of the traditional barriers that have historically limited insurance uptake.
Beyond policy purchase and payment, the bot also provides full customer support. Users can access assistance, receive confirmations and obtain documentation without navigating complex systems or waiting in queues. This seamless end-to-end digital experience reflects Excel Insurance’s broader strategy to place customer convenience at the heart of its operations while embracing technology-driven service delivery.
The initial phase of the launch focuses on Motor Third-Party Insurance, a mandatory requirement for motorists in Uganda. By simplifying access to this essential coverage, the Excel WhatsApp Bot ensures that drivers can secure insurance anytime and anywhere, reducing delays and improving compliance. Excel Insurance has confirmed that additional insurance products will be integrated into the platform in the near future, further expanding its digital offering.
Speaking on the launch, Paul Muwanga, Manager at Excel Insurance, emphasised the company’s customer-first vision. He noted that the new service reflects a deliberate effort to modernise insurance distribution and meet customers where they already are. By placing insurance services at people’s fingertips, the company aims to encourage greater participation in formal insurance schemes and enhance financial protection nationwide.
Service Cops, as the fintech partner behind the platform, plays a critical role in enabling this innovation. According to its Managing Director, Mathias Kamugasho, the collaboration demonstrates how fintech solutions can effectively bridge the gap between technology and insurance, fostering trust, efficiency and inclusion. The partnership highlights Service Cops’ growing influence in driving digital innovation across Uganda’s financial ecosystem.
