The insurance industry in Tunisia experienced a substantial increase in gross direct premiums in the first nine months of 2025 (9M2025), amounting to TND 3.1 billion (approx. $1.06 billion), up from TND 2.8 billion in the same period of 2024. This marks an 11.5% year-on-year growth, according to data published by the General Insurance Committee (CGA), Tunisia’s regulatory authority.
Life insurance business performed exceptionally well, with a 19% growth, reaching TND 888 million in 9M2025, compared to TND 746 million during the same period in 2024. This segment now accounts for over 28% of the total premium income across the entire insurance market.
Non-life premiums grew by nearly 9% year-on-year, maintaining a dominant share of over two-thirds (72%) of the total market. Motor insurance continued to lead the non-life business, contributing nearly 40% of the overall market size. Premiums in the motor segment reached TND 1.2 billion in 9M2025, up 8% from TND 1.1 billion in 9M2024.
Group health insurance also saw robust growth, increasing by 12% to TND 494 million, compared to TND 440 million in the same period of the previous year. This made it the third-largest non-life line of business, accounting for nearly 16% of the total premiums.
The total value of assets allocated for covering technical reserves increased by 13.9%, reaching TND 10.9 billion in 9M2025, up from TND 9.6 billion in 9M2024.
Furthermore, Tunis Re’s premium income grew by 2.7% in 9M2025, reaching TND 179.3 million, compared to TND 174.6 million during the same period of 2024.
