Insurance Reporters Forum Elects New Committee

The Insurance Reporters Forum (IRF), a professional body representing journalists covering Bangladesh’s insurance sector, has elected its new executive committee for the 2026–2027 term following a competitive and closely observed election.

The election results were announced at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, 28 April, at the auditorium of the Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF). Members of the forum participated in the voting process to determine the leadership for the next two years, reflecting continued engagement and organisational stability within the specialised journalism community.

Golam Mawla of Bangla Tribune was elected President, securing 33 votes. His nearest rival, Md Rahim Sheikh of Rupali Bangladesh, received 14 votes. In the contest for General Secretary, Gias Uddin of Banijjo Protidin emerged victorious with 28 votes, defeating Ibrahim Ali of Kalbela, who obtained 18 votes.

Several key positions were filled uncontested. Abdur Rahman Abir of Insurance News BD was elected Treasurer unopposed. Masud Mia of Amader Orthoneeti was also elected Vice President without opposition. Similarly, Nazmul Islam Faruk of RisingBD assumed the role of Joint Secretary uncontested.

In the executive member category, Shah Alam Noor of Dainik Naya Diganta secured 32 votes, while Azibul Haque Partho of RTNN received 29 votes, both earning positions on the committee.

The election was conducted under the supervision of a three-member Election Commission. The commission was chaired by Ashraful Islam, City Editor of Dainik Naya Diganta and a founding member of the organisation. The other members included Golam Samdani Bhuiyan, founding President of IRF, and Monir Hossain, President of CMJF. The commission ensured that the voting process was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner in accordance with organisational procedures.

The newly elected committee is expected to steer the forum’s activities over the next two years, focusing on strengthening professional standards among insurance sector journalists, enhancing training opportunities, and fostering closer engagement with regulatory and industry stakeholders.
