BRAC Bank TARA and Green Delta Insurance Host Breast Cancer Awareness Event

On 24 October, BRAC Bank’s head office became the centre of a powerful celebration of courage, compassion, and women’s wellness, as BRAC Bank TARA, in collaboration with Green Delta Insurance, hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Event. The gathering welcomed approximately 80 women customers and guests, highlighting the importance of awareness, early detection, and holistic support for women’s health.

Green Delta Insurance acted as the knowledge partner, while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supported the initiative as patron, reinforcing the event’s commitment to public health and empowerment.

Empowerment Through Awareness

The session was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammad Ashfaque, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Branch Distribution Network at BRAC Bank, who remarked:

“At BRAC Bank, we believe empowerment begins with awareness, and courage begins with conversation. This session brings together experts, survivors, and changemakers to shed light on an issue that touches so many lives. While cancer may bring fear, knowledge brings hope—and through dialogue, we can rise above it.”

In their welcoming addresses, Mehruba Reza, Head of TARA, Agami, and Premium Banking at BRAC Bank, and Sadaf Nasir, Unit Head of Brand and Communication at Green Delta Insurance, emphasised the organisations’ shared dedication to women’s empowerment, health inclusion, and holistic well-being.

Informative Sessions and Expert Insights

Sharmin Tarannum, Head of Medical Value Travel & Wellness at GD Assist, conducted a detailed session on the TARA Health Insurance Package and other wellness solutions tailored to support women throughout various stages of life.

A renowned Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, Dr Afrin Sultana, led a discussion on early detection, prevention, and common myths surrounding breast cancer, stressing that timely care and informed awareness can save lives.

The event also featured a panel discussion with leading figures:

  • Prof. Dr Md. Habibullah Talukder, Cancer Epidemiologist at Gonoshasthaya Community Based Cancer Hospital
  • Najmus Ahmed (Albab), Founder of BANCAT
  • Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director at Urmi Group

The panel highlighted the crucial role of public-private collaboration in enhancing access to breast cancer care across Bangladesh.

Additionally, Mehtab Khanam, eminent psychotherapist and Honorary Professor at the University of Dhaka, addressed mental wellness and emotional resilience, underscoring the importance of psychological support for both patients and caregivers.

Honouring Advocacy and Leadership

The event celebrated the dedication of three outstanding cancer activists:

  • Prof. Dr Md. Habibullah Talukder
  • Mahzabin Ferdous, General Secretary of BANCAT
  • Nuzhat Tarannum, Founder of TishCAN

These individuals were recognised for their tireless advocacy and efforts in spreading hope and awareness nationwide.

Empowering Women Through Technology

Natasha Kader, Senior Manager of TARA & Agami Segments at BRAC Bank, introduced Astha, the bank’s all-in-one digital banking platform, highlighting how it allows women to manage their finances securely and confidently from anywhere, complementing the event’s theme of empowerment and independence.

Celebrating Resilience and Hope

The evening concluded on a note of celebration and inspiration, with musical performances by the BRAC Bank Music Club, honouring hope, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity.

The event successfully blended awareness, education, and empowerment, reinforcing BRAC Bank TARA and Green Delta Insurance’s commitment to the well-being of women across Bangladesh.
