The Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), in collaboration with the MetLife Foundation, has successfully trained 40 persons with disabilities, equipping them with essential skills, certification, and support to establish small businesses and achieve self-reliance.
This initiative forms part of the ‘Jagoron’ programme, launched in 2025, which aims to promote sustainable livelihoods by enhancing the professional capabilities of participants. Through a combination of structured training and practical assistance, the programme bridges the gap between skill acquisition and employment opportunities.
Participants received comprehensive training in areas including computer office applications, electronics and mobile phone servicing, and garment design and tailoring. Alongside technical skills, trainees were offered guidance and support to apply these competencies in real-life entrepreneurial or employment settings.
Officials noted that the programme enables participants not only to gain practical skills but also to engage in income-generating activities, fostering long-term financial independence. Over the next few months, an additional 110 participants are scheduled to receive similar training and support.
During the training period, CRP ensured a fully inclusive and accessible environment for all participants, providing free medical and therapy services to support their overall well-being and learning experience.
The MetLife Foundation described the initiative as a strategic effort to create inclusive opportunities, enhance skills development, and strengthen community networks. This collaboration underscores the importance of empowering persons with disabilities to become active contributors to society and the economy.
