Eid Holiday Ends: Offices ,Banks and Insurance firms Reopen

Following a seven-day closure for Eid‑ul‑Fitr, government offices, banks, insurance firms, and other key institutions across Bangladesh reopened today, signalling the resumption of full-scale administrative and economic activity. Office hours are reinstated from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, marking the return to standard operating schedules nationwide.

During the holiday period, millions of government employees, private-sector professionals, and business personnel travelled to their hometowns to celebrate with family. In anticipation of today’s reopening, a large number of these individuals have already returned to Dhaka, causing significant passenger flow at major transport hubs. Bus terminals, railway stations, and river ports have reported heavy traffic, reflecting the country’s collective movement back to the capital.

Eid‑ul‑Fitr, one of the most important religious festivals in the Muslim calendar, was observed across Bangladesh on 21 March with customary solemnity and festive celebration. The government had declared a seven-day public holiday from 17 March to 23 March to facilitate nationwide observance of the festival.

The newspaper industry also observed a holiday during Eid. The Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) declared a five-day break from 19 March to 23 March, which concluded today, allowing publications to resume their normal operations. The reopening ensures that information dissemination and media activities return to their standard pace, supporting both the public and business sectors.

The return to work is expected to restore normal economic flows, particularly in banking, insurance, and corporate sectors. Analysts note that the rapid resumption of services will stabilise short-term financial activity and support continued economic productivity in the post-holiday period.

The table below summarises the reopening schedule for key sectors today:

The conclusion of the Eid holiday marks a broader resumption of national activity, restoring both the rhythm of everyday life and the momentum of the country’s economic and administrative machinery.
