HDI Global Canada Expands Sports, Entertainment & Contingency Portfolio

HDI Global Canada has announced the expansion of its Sports, Entertainment & Contingency (SE&C) portfolio with the introduction of a specialised Sports Insurance product designed specifically for national and provincial organisations, clubs, teams, and sports professionals.

This development comes amid growing demand within Canada’s sports insurance market, driven by increasing participation rates, heightened liability awareness, and a stronger emphasis on financial resilience across both community and professional sports programmes.

The newly launched Sports Insurance product provides extensive coverage encompassing Commercial General Liability, Abuse Liability, Property, and Equipment Insurance for travelling teams. It is designed to help sports organisations manage the escalating costs and complexities associated with injuries, misconduct allegations, and event disruptions — challenges that have intensified in recent years due to increased scrutiny over athlete welfare and organisational governance.

To further strengthen the package, HDI Global Canada has incorporated Legal Expense Insurance (LEI), ensuring that coaches and trainers have access to legal assistance in cases involving disputes, disciplinary actions, or liability claims. This addition responds directly to the rising legal exposures faced by sports professionals and volunteers, particularly within amateur and competitive circuits.

Michael McDermott, Head of Sports, Entertainment & Contingency at HDI Global Canada, explained that the new product has been developed not only to offer robust financial protection but also to ensure operational continuity for organisations facing unforeseen legal or financial challenges. He highlighted that the ultimate goal is to enable teams and associations to sustain their programmes even during periods of uncertainty.

Klaus Navarrete, Managing Director and Chief Agent of HDI Global Canada, added that the launch underscores the company’s commitment to evolving in line with market needs and reinforcing its position as a trusted partner within Canada’s expanding sports industry.

The introduction of this innovative product is expected to enhance HDI’s footprint in the sports and recreation insurance segment, a space that has seen rising competition among specialist insurers.

As sports bodies and community clubs place greater importance on compliance and risk management, HDI Global Canada’s comprehensive, scalable approach is likely to appeal to organisations seeking a unified insurance solution that supports both national frameworks and grassroots initiatives.
