IDRA Calls Stakeholder Meeting Over Popular Rising Rejection

The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) is set to convene a significant stakeholder meeting on 17 December 2025 at 3:30 PM in the IDRA conference hall. The meeting has been called in the wake of the General Insurance Corporation’s decision, announced on 3 March 2025, to reject the insurance and reinsurance claim submitted by Popular Rising.

The forthcoming meeting will provide a platform to discuss the rationale behind this contentious decision, its implications for the broader insurance sector, and the potential lessons for claim management practices. The session will be presided over by Dr. Md. Aslam Alam, the Hon. Chairman of IDRA.

Originally, the stakeholder meeting was scheduled for 15 December 2025, but due to unavoidable circumstances, it has been rescheduled to 17 December 2025. The postponement underscores the authority’s commitment to ensuring full participation from all relevant parties and a thorough discussion of the issues at hand.

The rejection of Popular Rising’s claim has sparked widespread debate across the insurance industry, raising critical questions about transparency, claim processing standards, and risk assessment protocols. Industry analysts suggest that the outcome of this meeting could influence future strategies in claim settlement and sector governance.

Senior officials from the General Insurance Corporation, members of the Central Rating Committee, representatives from the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA), the Bangladesh Insurance Forum (BIF), the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) are expected to participate. Additionally, other key business and trade organisations have been invited to ensure a comprehensive dialogue on the matter.

Md. Solaiman, Deputy Director of IDRA, has urged all invitees to attend punctually, stressing that the discussions could shape new perspectives on insurance operations and claim settlement procedures in Bangladesh.

For further information or enquiries regarding the meeting, stakeholders are advised to contact Md. Solaiman directly via telephone at 0241051382 or email at ddnmex@idra.org.bd.

This session marks a critical step in fostering transparency, accountability, and collaborative engagement within the country’s insurance sector, highlighting IDRA’s proactive role in strengthening regulatory oversight and industry confidence.
