Life and Personal Injury Coverage for MINDEF, MHA Personnel to Rise by $50,000

SINGAPORE – Personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will see their life insurance and personal injury coverage increase from $300,000 to $350,000 starting 1 November.

The revision will benefit around 500,000 personnel, including all full-time national servicemen as well as eligible operationally ready national servicemen, regulars, and volunteers, the two ministries said in a joint statement on 31 October.

The group insurance scheme, introduced in 2016, initially covered personnel with $150,000 per policy under group term life and group personal accident insurance. The initiative was part of 30 recommendations made by the Committee to Strengthen National Service to better recognise the contributions of national servicemen and enhance care for them, according to a fact sheet published at the time.On 1 January 2023, the coverage amounts were doubled, with a broader personal injury policy replacing the previous personal accident policy.“Insured individuals who wish to increase their coverage or include their dependants may purchase additional coverage from the appointed insurance company, Singlife,” the ministries added.
