Gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner has rolled out his proposal to address affordability issues across Florida. The plan, named the Florida First Affordability Plan, aims to lower costs, strengthen communities, and make success attainable for every Floridian.
“Florida stands at a pivotal moment. Families are working harder than ever, yet financial freedom seems out of reach. They are weighed down by the high cost of everyday goods, record housing prices, and wages that can’t keep up. The Florida First Affordability Plan is designed to provide real relief, guiding us towards a stronger, more affordable Sunshine State—where hard work is rewarded, government is accountable, and the ‘Florida Dream’ is achievable for all residents,” said Renner, a former House Speaker and Republican from Palm Coast.
Renner’s plan centres around tackling property taxes, insurance issues, litigation abuse, healthcare, education, and job creation with better wages.
Key Proposals from Renner’s Plan:
- Property Taxes: Renner calls for legislative collaboration to reduce property taxes, providing immediate relief to Floridians while waiting for long-term reforms that would require a constitutional amendment.
- Tax Breaks: He proposes offering breaks for senior citizens, first-time home buyers, and implementing caps on future tax increases. Additionally, he supports a supermajority requirement for tax hikes via referendums and wants voters to have the opportunity to vote on property tax relief without affecting funding for schools and first responders.
- Housing and Insurance: Renner also proposes restricting private equity from purchasing homes. To address the high cost of home insurance, he aims to curb excessive lawsuits and “nuclear verdicts”, expand home-hardening programmes, and hold insurers accountable.
- Healthcare and Education: Renner advocates for the elimination of the Affordable Care Act and aims to reduce healthcare costs. His plan also includes halting college admissions for students from countries of concern, such as China, and ending H1B visas for state employees and contractors.
“Our Florida First Affordability Plan is grounded in fiscal responsibility, consumer protection, and job-creating policies,” Renner stated. “Floridians deserve a governor who can turn promises into action. Our plan will lower costs, strengthen communities, and open doors for all residents to succeed.”
Renner emphasised that while other candidates may rely on social media and interviews, his plan is a comprehensive, actionable roadmap for a better, more affordable Florida.
