Key appointments set to reshape strategy and operations in Asia

BNP Paribas Cardif and Zurich Insurance Group have announced significant leadership changes that will impact their strategic direction, operations, and customer engagement across Asian markets. These high-profile appointments, which include new CEOs and senior management roles, are expected to drive key shifts in both companies’ approaches to the region.

BNP Paribas Cardif Restructures Leadership in Asia

BNP Paribas Cardif has appointed Michael Nguyen as the new Chief Executive Officer for Asia, marking a key transition for the company’s regional operations. Nguyen brings extensive experience in corporate strategy, operations, and technology. Having started his career with Airbus Group in 2002, he has held management roles at Bouygues, AXA, and SCOR Group, where he led operational strategy and managed several strategic projects.

Nguyen joined BNP Paribas Cardif in 2020 as Chief Information Officer before being promoted to Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer. In his previous role, he was responsible for driving operational efficiency, technology strategy, and operations. Nguyen holds degrees from Pierre and Marie Curie Paris University, HEC Paris, Mines ParisTech, and an MBA from INSEAD.

Nguyen’s appointment is part of a broader set of executive changes within BNP Paribas Cardif. Nicolas Villet, previously the head of strategy and deputy CEO for Asia, will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer for the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa). Villet, who joined BNP Paribas Cardif in 2013, has held several leadership roles, including CFO and deputy CEO for Asia. He is a graduate of Ecole des Mines and HEC Paris.

Zurich Insurance Group Appoints New Claims Officer for Asia-Pacific

Zurich Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Megan Shao as Chief Claims Officer for Asia-Pacific, effective 1 February 2026. Shao returns to Zurich after a successful tenure as Head of Claims, Asia, at AXA XL. She previously served as Head of Financial Lines & Casualty Claims, Asia-Pacific, at Zurich.

In her new role, Shao will oversee Zurich’s claims operations across the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on enhancing claims strategy and improving customer service standards. She will be based in Singapore and report directly to Sean Walker, Head of Commercial Insurance & Chief Technical Officer for Asia-Pacific.

“We are delighted to welcome Megan back to Zurich,” said Walker. “Her experience, leadership, and technical expertise will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our claims services for customers across the region.”

Shao is expected to collaborate closely with Zurich’s claims teams throughout Asia-Pacific to refine and enhance the company’s approach to claims management and customer engagement. She holds degrees from Boston University School of Law and Chinese Culture University in Taipei.
